We are Kathy & Mike Webster
of Orange County, California. Our journey into the world of
purebred dogs, and Akitas began in 1990. We were looking for
our first dog and knew that we wanted a large dog that would be
protective our home. When we first saw the Akita we were
intrigued. We were impressed with their size and beauty, and so
we purchased a brindle puppy. From the moment we brought
Koka home we were hooked.
We enrolled
Koka in a puppy kindergarten class
that we saw advertised at the vet’s office. It was at that
class that we met Julie Messersmith who was working her
two Akitas in obedience at the time. Over the next year and a
half Julie and I became friends, and I owe Julie a huge debt of
gratitude for introducing me to dog shows and teaching me so
much. It was Julie who convinced me that I should enter
Koka at the Akita National Specialty
in Ontario, California. Much to my surprise
Koka did really well, so well that
she won High In Trial!
Over the years our first two
Akitas got to try quite a few dog-related activities including,
Weight Pulling Competitions, Sheep Herding & Lure Coursing.
Koka earned her Companion Dog
degree and a Herding Instinct Certificate.
Sherman earned the Conformation
title of Champion and earned a 1st place by
pulling 1,600 pounds in competition and a Bronze Medal in the
120# class for the year ’94-’95 from the IWPA.
We treasure our dogs and consider them as our
family; they have enriched our lives in so many ways. Our
Akitas have shown us their versatility and usefulness and proved
that if you put effort and time into training that there really
are no pre-set limits to what an Akita can do. Below are links
to our first Akitas who have been very special in our lives.
